Our Chamber Committees In Action
Education Committee Update:

Education Matters !! We would like to take the time to thank Dr. Chesser and Elizabeth Brand at the High School for allowing us to talk to the Seniors and we want to send a special shout out to all our participants of our Education Matters Event at the High School on March 10. We had some very inspiring stories from business owners, industry and community leaders. Thank you for telling your own story and giving our Seniors an opportunity to hear what you are looking for in a workforce!

Tony Bell - Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated
Debbie Bridges - City Manager - City of Sylvester
Stuart Pate - State Farm Insurance - Owner Operator/Agent
Jennifer Calhoun – Walmart Manager Sylvester
Gilbert Robinson - McDonalds - Director of Operations
Chris Shipp - Shipp Shape Lawn Service
Camille Taylor - Realtor, Century 21 Smith, Branch & Pope LLC
Wendy Kennedy Dean of Business and Social Science - Darton
Lisa Cosper – Heritage Bank of the South- Bank – Human Resources Department

Remember, no matter what path you take working hard and having a good work ethic is the key to your success. The fact that 81% of all jobs today in Georgia require further education after High School should inspire each and everyone of you to look for a career path that suits you whether it is a certificate of some kind, 2 year, 4 year or masters. We think each and everyone of you are WORTH our efforts. So remember to ask yourselves WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE YOURSELF EMPLOYABLE IN TODAY'S WORKFORCE!!

Leadership Worth Update:

We had an awesome day at the Board of Education for our 3rd Leadership Worth Class!

Great message and great participation. We would like to thank several people and entities that made our day special. Our Guest Speaker Judge Melanie Cross, the Worth County Board of Education for hosting the event, Dr. Babs Thomas for talking to our group about how the Board of Education communicates with different entities and giving us a tour of the Worth County Board of Education, Clerk of Court Brenda Hicks for coordinating our tour of the Courthouse and City of Sylvester City Manager Debbie Bridges for talking to us about City Governance upcoming city events and what all the City does for it's community. Sylvester-Worth County has great leadership in place and we were excited to see them in action today. Our three facilitators today were Karon Willis, Brenda Hicks and Karen Rackley. We ended the class with some role playing and our class participants did an excellent job showing their listening and dialogue skills.

We would like to say thank you to Phoebe Worth Medical Center whom sponsored our lunch today and we cannot forget those who have made our 1st Leadership Class possible. Chair Karon Willis whom has put many hours into seeing our program come to fruit. The City of Sylvester, Worth County Economic Development, Sylvester Worth County Chamber and City of Poulan for helping to fund the class, our facilitators and Committee members that see the potential of our community and invested their time and efforts. We make a great team !!

Looking forward to our next class on April 15 in Poulan.
