Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Mark Butler visited Sylvester-Worth County on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. He was accompanied by his aide Christina Smith and Worth County’s regional representative Lynne Jones. Commissioner Butler was treated to lunch at Southern Woods Plantation where he was welcomed to Worth County by several business members and leaders of our community and treated to good ole Worth County Hospitality. Rackley Thank you, Commissioner Butler, for taking the time out to visit Sylvester-Worth County and thank you to all our attendees for taking the time out of your busy schedule to welcome him into our community! During lunch, Labor Commissioner Mark Butler addressed the needs of the upcoming workforce in the State of Georgia and the resources and services that the Georgia Department of Labor have available. CTAE Director Melissa Edwards appraised the Commissioner of the fact that they were using Georgia Best with our Work-based Learning Students at the High School and that we just received the 3.2 million dollar grant for the College and Career Academy. After lunch Chamber Director/EDA Director, Karen Rackley took the Labor Commissioner, Christina Smith, Lynne Jones and Mellissa Roberts on a tour of 3 of our existing businesses/industry in Worth County. Special thanks to Benjie DeLoach of Southern Woods for a great lunch, Greg Williams, David means and Thresa Pope at Con-Agra, Gil Haskins, Keith Willis and Vickie Hart at Worth Gin, and Ronald Downs and Tony Bell at Coca-Cola for taking the time out of their busy schedules to give us a tour of their facilities. We truly showed Labor Commissioner Butler why we are WORTH it!
Worth County Middle School Award Winner’s for Academic Excellence – 3rd Semester.
Each student was congratulated by Principal Tiffany Sevier, their respective grade Assistant Principals, and Chamber Directors present. The Chamber presented each award winner with a plaque and cash award. Congratulations to all students for their achievements! #worththeeffort .
Sylvester-Worth County Government Committee in action!!
The Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce hosted the 8th Grade Ambassadors Government Tour on April 28, 2017. The purpose of the tour is to educate the students about the resources that are available in their own community. The students were exposed to the local government and judicial system, emergency management and fire, the importance of graduating high school, keeping their dollars local with businesses in Worth County, keeping the community clean and economic development.
We would like to thank our Government Committee, Worth County Middle School and Worth County Board of Education, Worth County Board of Commissioners, Probate Court, Clerks Office, Registrar’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, Tax Commissioner and Tax Assessor’s Office, Magistrate’s Office, District Attorney’s Office and Judge Powell for working with us to allow the students to witness a live trial, and the City of Sylvester Fire Department, Mayor, City Manager and Staff, and City Police Department for the great tours. We were able to educate our students why we are WORTH it!!
