The Sylvester Women's Club held their Annual Breakfast with Santa this Saturday at the women's club. The Sylvester Worth County Chamber of Commerce would like to thank them for their donation.  Several of the mornings participates from the event donated toys to go to the Chambers Annual Christmas Clearing House.

Ms. Donna Crowe said she was extremely happy with the attendance and support of of the event and is already looking forward to planning it for next year. Ms. Donna Crowe and Ms. Betsy Davis are members of the Sylvester Women's Club and they largely spearheaded the return of this event. They wanted to share their love of all that is Christmas with children and what better way to do it than by hosting a Breakfast with Santa! They had over 150 reservations and Santa was kept quite busy.

Ms. Crowe said they couldn't have pulled it off without the help of their husbands Norman Crowe and Billy Davis, their women's club members, Ms. Mary Houstin, Ms. Emily Thompson, Ms. Terri Spurlin, and others like Ms Tabatha Duprist and Ms. Ann Goldinger who helped decorate and helped throughout the morning. Nettie and Eric Hatcher from Harvest Studios, and their elves, who provided music and help from their awesome elves, Josh and Melody Beckstrom, who took photos with Santa and of course Santa!  To say they were quite successful is an understatement!

We have some pretty awesome Chamber Members! If you want to get involved in community this is just one of many great organizations to get involved with!

Our Chamber Committees In Action

The Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce held its 2nd Annual Board retreat on December 4, 2015. The purpose of the retreat was to initiate incoming Directors and Ambassadors to the Chamber's mission and vision, and to formulate the Chamber's 2016 Program of Work and Committee commitments. The current 2015 Executive Board facilitated the event. Chair Mr. Kyle Tomlinson welcomed the new Directors and Ambassadors, discussed the mission and organization of the Chamber, and explained the importance of membership. Treasurer Josh Beckstrom explained the Chamber's inner workings, website, and Program of Work, as well as the Finances and Budget of the Chamber. Secretary Karon Willis described the Keys to becoming a successful Director/Ambassador along with Board Etiquette. Vice Chair Kim Gilman wrapped up the morning session's facilitation by discussing the importance of developing a winning volunteer leadership team and introducing the committee structure of the Chamber.

Prior to the lunch break, Secretary Karon Willis regretfully announced her resignation from the upcoming 2016 Board. Karon felt she would be unable to fulfill her duties as an incoming Vice Chair due to her inability to make several planned meeting dates. Karon then introduced the new incoming 2016 Executive Board. Chair - Kim Gilman of Phoebe Worth Medical Center, Vice Chair - Josh Beckstrom of Sylvester Computer Guy, Secretary - Tony Bell of Coca Cola, Treasurer Gina Connell of Worth County Health Department, and Past Chair Kyle Tomlinson of Snipes Piggly Wiggly. Incoming Chair Kim Gilman recognized Karon for her hard work with the Chamber, presented her with a token of the Chamber's appreciation, left the door open for her to return, and then welcomed Gina Connell to the Executive Board.

Returning Directors joined the initiates for lunch and the afternoon session. Karon Willis began the session with a Leadership Ice Breaker exercise and an open discussion that challenged the group to come up with a Leadership definition for 2016, which produced the following collaborative statement: Leadership is challenging and rewarding, involving a comprehensive vision led by committed, accountable people striving for diversity, knowledge and the wellness of the community. The session continued with current committee Chairs having the opportunity to talk to the group about the mission and vision of each committee. Each Director/Ambassador was asked to pick at least two committees to serve on.

Following the conclusion of the retreat, Incoming Vice-Chair Josh Beckstrom welcomed everyone to the dinner reception, where friends and family joined the Retreat participants and enjoyed a superbly catered dinner and an evening of fellowship. Incoming Past Chair Chris Shipp led an invocation and the pledge. President/CEO Karen Rackley recognized the incoming 2016 Board of Directors and Ambassadors, whose induction will be held at the Chamber's Annual Dinner on January 28, 2016. Dinner music was provided by Rocky Duckworth of Rocky's Music.

Gratitude was continually expressed for the sponsors of the retreat: Phoebe Worth Medical Center - Dinner Sponsor, Leadership Worth - Lunch Sponsor, Shipp Shape Lawn Service - Breakfast Sponsor, Sylvester Computer Guy - Slide Show Sponsor, and the Sylvester-Worth County Chamber.
