Letter from Band Director Miki Hutchinson

Our Ram Band had an amazing experience during the Winter break in Atlanta.  Our trip got off to a questionable start with a tire blowout on our charter bus just north of Cordele, but everything was uphill from there.

From dining at the historical Varsity to cheering on the Red Knight at the Medieval Times dinner show, our kids had a variety of memorable activities during the trip.

Our Concert Band and Jazz Band both performed for a panel of judges from three universities: University of Illinois, Ohio University and Georgia Tech. Both groups received First Place in Division 2 (based on school population). There were 8 states represented at these events: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Missouri, N. Carolina, Florida, Virginia and Georgia.  Our Jazz Band received the highest score of any school in any of the judged areas: Concert, Jazz, Field Show and Parade.

4 Ram jazz students were recognized for outstanding musicianship (the only individual performers recognized at all!): Donald Johnson, Ashley Luke and Brandon Shaner.   Carlmalita Parker was given a plaque for being the Outstanding soloist.

After a 5:30 AM call time to march in the Peach Parade on New Year's Eve, upon entering the GA Dome, the Ram Band was also awarded a First Place trophy for the Parade.

Being on on the field at the GA Dome for the pre game show performance at a major bowl game with nearly 1,000 students was an experience of a lifetime for our kids.

Thank you to all who helped me to get our kids there.

On December 17, 2014, the Work-Based Learning Program at Worth County High School delivered supplies to Best Friends Humane Society. The students brought in items during December to help the shelter. The students pictured are Zach Kennedy, Madison Powers, Kelli Harrell, Katlyn Lawson, and Coordinator Tina Pate. The others in the picture are workers from Best Friends Humane Society.

ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE?? Worth County Middle School is by collecting 'JEANS' for the homeless and they are reaching out to the community to help them meet it head on! Please read the request below and let's help them meet their goal!

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Worth County Middle School has entered into a contest with other schools throughout the United States to collect "JEANS" for homeless youth in our community and other states. The homeless population among our youth is staggering and we want to help Aeropstale get jeans for teens in need. I will be placing a box in the front lobby of the school for you to place your jeans. Now for the good news, while we collect jeans for a great cause our school will be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 grant, a concert with "THE VAMPS" at our school, and an Aeropostale shirt for each student at WCMS!!!

I know we have some very caring parents here at WCMS and we are always looking for ways to help those less fortunate. Remember, some of these jeans will stay RIGHT HERE to help youth in Worth County, so bring us your old jeans (sizes infant through adult)!! Do not hesitate to call me if you need additional information about our jeans drive. Thank you in advance for your help with this project!

FYI - We will collect jeans from January 12 - February 12.

Good Luck WCMS!!!
